Yet another wild Saturday night, and guess where I ended up? Yep, the theatre! This time, I strutted my stuff at the fabulous Teatro Salón Cervantes to catch a glimpse of Retorno al Hogar, the Spanish remix of The Homecoming by the one and only Harold Pinter. Let's just say my Spanish skills were put to the test - I caught a word here and there, a full sentence if the stars aligned! But hey, that's the magic of theater, right? The actors were on fire, painting the town red with their performance. I can't wait for the day when I'll be sipping tea at a proper English version. Who knows, maybe I'll catch it in jolly old London town! Cheers to more theatrical adventures!
The theater was constructed in just 29 days and opened in 1888. It remains intact and in excellent condition. I find it puzzling that in the U.S., it can take a decade to build a single mile of highway, but that discussion can be saved for another time and place. I couldn't take many photos of the theater before the show began, and unfortunately, balcony seats were sold out. This theater was larger than the one I visited last week, making it challenging to take clear pictures without including other audience members' heads. I only managed to snap two pictures of the stage and a portion of the ceiling. Due to the darkness and crowds outside, I couldn't capture any exterior shots.
So, there I was, feeling all fancy after the theatre, deciding to treat myself to a solo dinner date. Now, dining alone is no biggie for me, but oh boy, Spain has its quirks. Apparently, when you ask for a "mesa per uno," you might not always get a table. Some places are like, "Sorry, no table for you, lone ranger!" But fear not, for La Rollerie came to my rescue, blessing me with a cozy spot by the window. I stumbled upon this gem while strolling around and have been a regular for their café y postres. Tonight, I decided to dive into their dinner and drinks menu. Sangria and the Club House Sandwich were a match made in culinary heaven! And let's not forget the fabulous décor – I think I've found my new favorite hangout spot!
